Typing About Teacher Type

I don't remember deciding to become a teacher.

As long as I can remember, it was just what I was going to do. There have been moments over the years that were hard, frustrating, or exhausting, but leaving the profession was never something I seriously considered.

Teaching has a funny way of staying with you.

Long after graduation, most of us can still picture our favorite teacher. We can probably picture the one(s) we'd rather forget, too. I think about that more often than I'd like to admit. I hope that years from now, when my students think back on eighth grade, they remember feeling challenged, supported, and like someone believed they could do hard things.

That hope quietly shapes almost everything I do.

Teacher Type started because I couldn't find teacher apparel that felt like something I'd actually wear. A lot of it leaned into clichés, burnout, or being loud for the sake of being noticed. There's certainly a place for that, but it never felt like me.

I wanted something simpler.

Something that reflected the profession without making it the punchline.

Some designs are inspired by the phrases we all say every day. Others celebrate the different ways teachers show up for students and each other. Every piece is designed with the same idea in mind: teaching is thoughtful work, and it deserves thoughtful design.

Whether you're reading a novel with your class, leading a science lab, teaching kindergarteners how to hold a pencil, or sitting down with a cup of tea to plan tomorrow's lesson, I hope Teacher Type feels like it belongs in your day.
